Following this heritage is nanotechnology which is inventing new things every day from that already present and making life easier. With this technology, things will shape up in such direction that all inventions till date may look childish. For making this statement true let’s look how carbon has been utilized by nano technologist.
Carbon and its utilization in Nanotechnology through carbon nanofiber You must have heard that carbon is found in different forms on earth and inside it. Sometimes it’s very soft like in graphite, while sometimes it’s the hardest thing on earth like in diamond. Other important forms of carbon in terms of nanotechnology are carbon nanofiber and carbon nanotubes. Chemists and physicists have found these nano structured carbon immensely useful and they have much potential for further development. Just like any other matter related to nano technology, scientist have found that these nano fibesr from carbon promise a lot to the future generation. The shape of carbon nanofiber is cylinder structure that has interwoven particles which are arranged in a pate, cone, or cup shape. You would get various subtypes of these nano fibers like vapor grown carbon fibers, graphene layers and more. For producing carbon nano structures, the chemists use three main techniques which are laser ablation, arc discharge, and chemical vapor deposition. However, the latter gives carbon nano structures with larger diameters and are controlled poorly. Apart from this, you would get at least three types of nano fibers from carbon and they are: Herringbone Platelet, and Ribbon The applications of the carbon nanofiber As already mentioned nano technology is doing magic and so the different particles are invented due to this science. The story is not different for even carbon nanofiber, as they are used in various activities. Let’s start with their use in chemistry, they are a source of emission of electrons, composite materials and are used as catalyst in Petro chemistry. Even it acts as a good material for electrode; in gene delivery it is used as a platform. It is widely used as the cost of these carbon made nano fibers is not much when compared to the carbon fibers. This is a reason why these fibers are used in various industries in one or other way. Starting from silicon wafer manufacturing to production of batteries, these nano fibers are widely used. They can be useful while making the components of a disk drive, and even while cleaning your room! With other nano products, they are used in automobiles also like in bumpers, fuel system, and fenders. As these nano fibers are quite reliable they are also used in thermal management, aerospace mainly for aircraft banking and for light weight composites. With so many utilities, these nano fibers are high in demand and more and more uses of them are being invented every day. All this is possible just as nano technologists are working day in and day out to make new inventions that would change the world.
